What kind of auto injuries can we help you with?

Auto injuries can, of course, cause visible injuries such as breakages, internal injuries, and more. These need to be handled in the emergency room and when the immediate injury has been taken care of, we can help you with recovery and the less visible problems.

The trauma from the auto accident can produce many less obvious problems, some of which could be painful and others not. Typically these can include whiplash; neck, low back or muscle injuries; neck stiffness, jaw pain, headaches, herniated discs and pain radiating down the legs or arms.

Dr. Jere can help with all of the above. The first step is a comprehensive exam and consultation. Dr. Jere advises that you start the process as soon after the accident as possible.

What is Whiplash?

Whiplash occurs when your head is suddenly jerked or jolted, causing it to move violently away from your body. The head snaps forward and then backward. It is the most common consequence of auto accidents.

The sudden jolt of an auto accident can cause serious injuries. Even if the crash seems minor, the damage to your spine and neck may not be. There can be injuries underneath the skin, even if you don’t have a scratch or a bruise.

Sometimes the symptoms aren’t felt until days, weeks or months after whiplash has occurred. That’s why it’s very important to be examined thoroughly after an auto accident to make sure any hidden damages don’t become long-term or permanent. Long-term damage to the spine and head is especially common in auto accidents.

Whiplash Symptoms

The most common symptom after a whiplash injury is neck pain or stiffness. This can occur right after an injury or even a few days later. Other symptoms can include:

  • Headaches

  • Dizziness

  • Weakness

  • Pain in arms and shoulders

  • Numbness or “pins and needles”

  • Visual and auditory symptoms

  • Difficulty in swallowing

  • Concentration difficulties
